In the Middle School Art program, projects encourage use of the imagination along with originality. Students will develop skills necessary for creating works that convey meaningful ideas and feelings. Students will gain a greater sense of self-esteem through creative expression and accomplishment. There is a great emphasis on student effort and involvement. The Middle School art courses are guided by the curriculum goals set by the New York State Learning Standards.
The Sixth grade art course is a foundation course for the study of art on the Middle School level. A continued emphasis will be placed on the elements of design (line, shape, color, form, texture, space) that were introduced in the elementary art curriculum. As part of the art history continuum, students will be introduced to the art of ancient cultures, and the art of Asia through presentations and related projects.
The Seventh grade art course continues the exploration of the elements of design through a variety of two dimensional and three dimensional projects. As part of the Middle School art history continuum, students will be introduced to Medieval Art and art of the Renaissance through presentations and related projects.
The Eighth grade art course continues the exploration of elements of design through a variety of two dimensional and three dimensional projects. As part of the Middle School art history continuum, students will be introduced to Impressionism and several contemporary art movements through presentations and related projects.
